Loss of Use or Additional Living Expenses (ALE) provides reimbursement for the extra costs you incur when your home is deemed unlivable and is being restored. This coverage includes reasonable payments for lodging, food, clothing, and other associated expenses. It is disbursed immediately once approved. Talk to your agent to see if your policy includes this coverage and if so, what the limits are.
Unfortunately, contractors who lack integrity often try to take advantage of homeowners by inflating repair costs, promising quick fixes, and offering to relieve you of the “burden” or “hassle” of dealing with your insurance company. Before agreeing to any repairs, contact American Integrity to report the damage. We'll send a licensed adjuster to assess whether the repair is covered under your policy.
Home improvements are usually covered, but you should update your policy to reflect any significant renovations that increase your home's value. Additionally, if the home is uninhabited and all of the furniture is moved out during the renovation, you may qualify for Vacant Insurance. Talk to your agent about this coverage.
Ordinance or law coverage helps pay for the extra costs of bringing your home up to current building codes during repairs after a covered loss.
Water backup coverage protects against damage caused by backed-up drains or sump pumps, which standard policies don’t typically cover.
A typical American Integrity homeowners policy includes $10,000 in coverage for mold, fungi, wet or dry rot, or bacteria. Additional coverage can be purchased as an endorsement. Talk to your agent to learn more.
A peril is a risk that can cause damage, like a storm. Named perils policies only cover the specific risks listed in the policy, like fire or theft, while open perils policies cover everything except what’s specifically excluded. Thus, open perils offer broader protection than a named perils policy. Check your declarations page for a breakdown of all the coverage included in your policy.
You can insure high-value items by adding a scheduled personal property endorsement to your home insurance, which provides extra coverage beyond the standard limits.
